The National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, on 14 September 1992, issued the decision on the separation of higher education institutions of the University of Sarajevo and their association in the University of Sarajevo of the Republic of Srpska. The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of the Republic of Srpska, on 30 November 1994, found that the Faculty of Law fulfills conditions for work and rendered a decision approving its work. Since 1999, classes are held in the Department of the Law Faculty in Bijeljina as well. The Faculty of Law, in the academic year 2010/2011, opened another department in Srebrenica.
The Faculty of Law of the University of East Sarajevo has been conducting teaching proces in accordance with the Bologna Declaration since academic year 2007/2008. Owing to the tradition of 70 years, the Faculty successfully gained the first graduates under the new curriculum. The studies are carried out according to the licensed study program.
The first study cycle at the Faculty is conducted as study program Law at the seat of the Faculty in Pale, and in departments outside the seat - Bijeljina and Srebrenica. Studies last four years (eight semesters), with 240 ECTS credits and after completion of basic studies, the acquired academic title is Bachelor in Law - 240 ECTS.
The second study cycle at the Faculty is conducted as study program Law at the seat of the Faculty in Pale. Studies last one year (two semesters) with 60 ECTS and predicted development of final Master work. The academic title after the second study cycle is Master in Law. The licensing of the third cycle of studies is anticipated in accordance with the Law on Higher Education and Bologna principles.
